Special Visits to Rosemont Elementary and the University of Charleston!

Boys and girls! I can let time get away from me like Harrison Honeybee on a warm summer day! I know a new month starts tomorrow (don't you go April Fooling everyone, you hear?), but I wanted to tell you about two more of my special visits to schools in March!

Earlier in the month, I went to Rosemont Elementary in Berkeley County for their S'more Reading Night! A s'more is a special snack made with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. It's almost as tasty as my delicious honey! After the Rosemont Rockets put on their special Reading Night play, the students rotated to different reading stations - and I was one of them! I got to share my favorite book, M is for Mountain State. A big thanks to Mrs. Spataro's class helpers, who made sure my Sugar Maple Friends had everything we needed that night!
Rosemont Elementary is in Berkeley County - hey, that's me!

It was a very busy night - here I am resting with Clay in Mrs. Spataro's third grade classroom!

At the end of the month, Mrs. Sponaugle made a special visit to another college, the University of Charleston! She spoke to the student teachers - they will have their own classrooms in the fall, and Mrs. Sponaugle wanted to talk to them about becoming teachers! The room that she met the student teachers in had a wonderful view of one of my most favorite things ever - the state capitol building! Of course, I had to get a picture!
The University of Charleston's mascot is the Golden Eagle!

I practiced my very best listening skills while Mrs. Sponaugle was speaking. I can't say the same for Harrison Honeybee and Morgan Monarch.

Hey! It's me in Charleston!

Even though this has been a slow month for Berkeley, Mrs. Sponaugle has been very busy. I hope she remembers to hibernate every once and a while. April is going to be our very busy month, where we will go to many places, classrooms, and the White House! Do you think the president has ever met a little black bear cub? Maybe I will be the first.

I'm so excited to "spring" into some more adventures with you!

Until next time,

My Read Across America Snow Day!

One more post today, boys and girls! I know many of you are at home today because of the snow and ice! However, that's no excuse to not pick up a good book and read, read, READ! Sorry but I get very excited when I talk about my favorite thing to do in the entire world (next to eating honey)!

Do you know what Sunday was??? It was the birthday of my favorite author, Dr. Seuss! If we would have had school Monday, I am sure you would have done many fun things in your classroom to celebrate reading and all of the wonderful book written by Dr. Seuss. Well, Mrs. Sponaugle and I have a feeling that was going to happen, so we put our heads together and came up with a great idea.

We were going to read a book to ALL the students in West Virginia! And it would matter if we had a snow day, because we were going to tape ourselves reading the best book of all, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
Happy Dr. Seuss Day!

I got the camera all charged up while Mrs. Sponaugle found her book, then we went out to her classroom to read in her classroom library. She also brought along the Cat in the Hat, because that was one of Dr. Seuss' most successful books. Now I was going to argue with her about bringing him along, because cats are NOT my favorite animals (Mrs. Sponaugle has two cats that I do not like very much, but since they are "teacher's pets" we have to get along, even though they get away with hissing at me!). But Mrs. Sponaugle said the students would like to see him too, so I obliged.
What path will you choose?

Oh, the places you'll go!

I had so much fun reading "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and I hope you like listening to the story! There is a special place on my blog, right under "The West Virginia Hills," where you can click and listen to it whenever you want! This link will also take you right to our video.

I hope you are staying safe and warm on your snow days, boys and girls. In the meantime, let books take you to special places that make you use your imagination...and think of Spring!

Kids, you'll move mountains!!!

Until next time...

My February College Visits!

Brrr! It's a cold day, boys and girls! I don't know about you, but I am ready to spring, flowers, bees, and of course, some fresh honey!

I will make this a short post, but I also wanted to tell you about some other schools I have visited in West Virginia this past month: colleges.

What is a college, you may ask? Well, a college (or a university) is a school you go to after you graduate from high school. You go to school there to take classes that will help you do the job you want to have as an adult. When you graduate from college, you go out into the world and (after some interviews, where people learn about what kind of worker you will be) and can be a teacher, accountant, doctor, writer, scientist...and many other things! Some jobs take more schooling than others, but all take very special people to do them well. It's important that, even as an elementary school student, you make good choices now and do your best in school so you are prepared for college and your future career.

I was able to travel with Mrs. Sponaugle to two colleges in February! She went to these schools to speak to students who are going to be teachers in just a few years - some will even be in the classroom next year! The first one was Shepherd University. It is located in Shepherdstown in Jefferson County. Shepherd University's mascot (that means their symbol) is the Rams.
Jefferson County!

The school colors at Shepherd are Blue and Gold!

This building at Shepherd University is called Knutti Hall. It's where all the students go to learn how to be teachers!

The other college was West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. That is in Upshur County. Their mascot is the Bobcats! I have never seen a ram roaming around the West Virginia hills, but I have seen a bobcat or two! Trust me: you don't want to get too close!
Upshur County!

The school colors of WV Wesleyan are Orange and Black!

This is called the administration building at WV Wesleyan. There are lots of offices inside, but students still have classes in here!

I'm sorry I don't have very many exciting pictures from my college visits. I was very busy being a good helper and carrying some of Mrs. Sponaugle's heavy bags for her, so she would slip and fall in the snow. I will be going back to Shepherd many times this year, so I will take more pictures so you can see what a college looks like. I will hopefully visit more colleges across the state - so make sure to keep checking my special blog!

Until next time...
