My Visit to Brooke County and My VERY Important Decision!

Oh, my, boys and girls! Here I go again with my paws flying up and down the keyboard. I have so many special stories to tell you about my travels, but I have been so busy helping Mrs. Sponaugle get ready for Washington, D.C. that I haven't had time to write! I am actually there now, in the District of Columbia, our nation's capital! I am up late typing this important post to you because I am so excited about visiting the Smithsonian (a very special museum that I will tell you about in another post)!

First I must tell you about my visit to Brooke County. It is in the Northern Panhandle of our beautiful state of West Virginia. The Northern Panhandle stands straight up and touches Pennsylvania and Ohio. My friend, Brooke Trout (the state fish) is named after this county! I was there to meet the students at Colliers Primary School at their awards ceremony. Colliers is a very special school, because it is a School of Excellence! That means the teachers and students work extra hard to make their school a wonderful place to learn!

Harrison and Morgan liked the bulletin board!

I just love their mascot!

I told their Easter Bunny I wanted honey in my eggs!

Some of the responsible students I met that day!

The students and teachers at Colliers were very nice to me and my Sugar Maple Friends! I was so happy to tell them all about my favorite state and give them the bookmarks I worked so hard to make on the computer. When I left Brooke County to go back home, I got a sad spot in my little, furry tummy. You see, I love all the students I meet, but I know that I won't get to meet them all this year. I would like to meet all of the boys and girls in West Virginia, but there are so many places that I must go with Mrs. Sponaugle - and only so many hours in a day. I get a little teary eyed just thinking about the students that I will never get to meet.

...And that is when a little bird (Clay the Cardinal) told me a great idea! Why, I am a writer bear, after all. I'm also an artist bear, because I love to draw pictures to go along with my stories. What my dear friend Clay tweeted in my ear, when my mood was as dark as my fur, was "Berkeley, you should write a book about all of our travels this year so ALL the students can learn about our adventures and West Virginia!"

Well, I had to talk to Mrs. Sponaugle about this, because I need lots of help with my spelling and sometimes I color way outside the lines. She told me I had a wonderful idea and that she would help me any way she could so that our book can reach young West Virginians everywhere! My little bear mood is now as bright as a polar bear's coat! It will take a lot of hard work and time, but Berkeley is going to add author to his list of adventures this year! And you never know - your school or picture just may be in it!

I am so excited, but I better go to bed now. I promise I will tell you all about the schools I visited in Hardy County tomorrow!

Until next time...
